MU-NU Spring Training Program 2024

20 February, 2024, at 9.00 hrs., Associate Professor Dr. Kitikorn Charmondusit, Dean of the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, presided over and delivered a welcome speech at the opening ceremony of the "MU-NU Spring Training Program 2024" at the Nart Tuntawiroon meeting room. The program is scheduled to take place from February 20 to March 22, 2024, participated by undergraduate students from the Faculty of Environmental Science at Nagasaki University, Japan, and students in the Bachelor of Science program in Environmental Science and Technology, and the Bachelor of Science Program Natural Resources and Environmental Management Program (International Program) of the Faculty under the supervision of Assistant Professor Dr. Allan Sriratana Tabucanon, Program Director, and Deputy Dean for Education and International Relations, together with Professor Dr. Hideki NAKAYAMA from Nagasaki University, Japan.

The MU-NU Spring Training Program is a joint academic activity between the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies at Mahidol University and the Faculty of Environmental Science at Nagasaki University in Japan since 2015. The program has been enabling annual student exchanges, allowing students to gain practical experience by working with experts in various fields, learning beyond the confines of a classroom, and applying the "Learning by doing" approach to promote academic learning, group work, and cultural exchange.


Carbon Neutrality Campus

16 February , 2024, 13:00 - 15:00 hrs, Associate Professor Dr. Kitikorn Charmondusit, Dean of the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies at Mahidol University, Ms. Hitomi Rankine, Chief of the Environment and Development Policy Section at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), Dr. Saravanee Sighthong, Division Director at the National Higher Education Science Research and Innovation Policy Council (NXPO), and Professor Leong Yuen Yoong, a co-leader of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) ASEAN Green Future Project, participated in a seminar on the subject of "Carbon Neutrality Campus," with Dr. Praewa Wongburi, the faculty's Assistant to the Dean for Policy, Planning, and International Relations, serving as the moderator.

The seminar functioned as a comprehensive forum dedicated to the exploration of knowledge, policy information, and case studies relevant to the issues of Net Zero Emissions and Carbon Neutrality in the context of campus space management. This assembly provided a platform for the exchange of knowledge and recommendations, fostering collaboration on both national and international scales, with a focus on requisite funding needed to cultivate innovative concepts, and creating collaborative opportunities. The goal of these endeavors is to assist Thai higher education institutions in realizing carbon neutrality and achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions. This strategic alignment is aimed at positioning Thai higher education institutions as sustainable eco-universities in the future.

The seminar on "Carbon Neutrality Campus" is part of the 8th Annual Academic Conference organized by the Sustainable University Network of Thailand (SUN Thailand), under the theme "Actions Toward a Carbon Neutral Society." The event took place at the Parama meeting room, Graduate College, Nawamintharashinee Building, King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok.


Signing Ceremony for the Memorandum of Understanding with Changwon National University, Dong-Eui University, Dongseo University, and Silla University from the Republic of Korea

January 29, 2024, Mahidol University, represented by the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies and the Faculty of Engineering, participated in a signing ceremony for the Memorandum of Understanding with Changwon National University, Dong-Eui University, Dongseo University, and Silla University from the Republic of Korea. This collaboration is part of the Industry-University Cooperation 3.0 (LINC 3.0) initiative.


Associate Professor Dr. Noppol Arunrat, Deputy Dean for Research and Academic Services, represented the Dean of the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, while Associate Professor Dr. Thanapat Wanichanonm, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, and General Directors including Professor DEA-WOON JEONG from Changwon National University, Professor GI-HYUN HWANG from Dongseo University, Professor IMGEUN LEE from Dong-Eui University, and Professor BOMJIN LEE from Silla University, participated in the signing ceremony, which took place at Innogineer Studio, Building 3, Faculty of Engineering, Mahidol University.


Special Lecture on "Unraveling Past Ecosystem-Climate and Human Interactions for Future Sustainable Development"

January 22, 2024, from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m., Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies at Mahidol University, with Doctor of Philosophy Program in Environment and Resource Studies (International Program) as a chief coordinator, hosted a special lecture on "Unraveling Past Ecosystem-Climate and Human Interactions for Future Sustainable Development", given by Professor Dr. Rob Marchant from the University of York, United Kingdom, which was followed by a lecture on "Navigating a world of uncertainty, complexity, and risk", by Associate Professor Dr. Richard Friend. The lecture was attended by students, faculty, and attendees from both within and outside the Faculty. After the lecture, Assistant Professor Dr. Allan Sriratana Tabucanon, Deputy Dean for Education and International Affairs, representing the dean, presented souvenirs to the lecturers and Professor Matthias Ruth, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research at the University of York.


This event was part of a broader visit to Thailand led by Professor Matthias Ruth. The purpose of the visit was to collaborate with the department, as well as engage in discussions with Mahidol University executives, to explore opportunities for cooperation concerning the development of joint degree programs at the doctoral level, seed grant agreement, student and personnel exchange programs at the university level.


Special Talk on the topic entitled "Methanogenic Degradation and Microbial Metabolism of Trace Gases"

On Thursday, November 30, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies at Mahidol University organized a special talk on the topic entitled "Methanogenic Degradation and Microbial Metabolism of Trace Gases" by Professor Dr. Ralf Conrad from the Max Planck Institute for Terrestrial Microbiology, Germany. The session, held at the Satra Methee Dr. Pongpit Piyapong Conference Room (4228), 2nd Floor, Badhanatala Environment Building (Building 4), and chiefly coordinated by Assistant Professor Dr. Monthira Yuttitham, the faculty’s Deputy Dean for Policy, Planning, and Finance, received active participation and provided a valuable platform for intellectual exchange and furthered the university's commitment to advancing knowledge in environmental and resource studies.


Air Quality Monitoring Station Visit by MUEG

November 17, 2023, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Assistant Professor Dr. Kritana Prueksakorn, Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies at Mahidol University gave a lecture on the steps and processes for measuring air quality in the atmosphere, specifically focusing on measuring dust in the atmosphere. to second-year students in the Bachelor of Engineering Program in Chemical Engineering (International Program), which is part of the activities in the subject EGCG 231 Environmental and Everyday Life, with Assistant Professor Dr. Weerawut Chaiwat from the Chemical Engineering Department at Mahidol University, as the lecturer responsible for the course. The lecture was held at the Nart Tuntawiroon Meeting Room, followed by a visit to the air quality monitoring station at the Information Building Assistant Professor Dr. Thanakorn Uan-on, Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University.
