MU-NU Spring Training Program 2025

Mahidol University’s Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies (ENVI) recently welcomed a delegation from Nagasaki, Japan for the MU-NU Spring Training Program 2025.

On 18 February, Associate Professor Dr. Kitikorn Charmondusit presided over the opening ceremony, and as the Dean of ENVI also formally welcomed the group. In his opening speech, he highlighted MU’s green campus, Thailand’s rich culture and a learning-by-doing approach to studies and research.

Ten Nagasaki students, led by Professor Hiroshi Asakura, made the trip south for the program; trading frozen winter in Japan for the beginning of Thailand’s hot season.

From 17 Feb -21 March the students will join ENVI lectures, meet with experts and study an array of subjects, including air and water pollution, soil science, environmental management, low-carbon communities, eco-tourism, climate change, molecular biology and biotechnology, and Thai language.

As noted by Dr. Kitikorn, field work and activities are also a point of emphasis, and include a visit to the pomelo orchards of Nakhon Pathom’s Koh Lad E-tan district, research at mangrove forests in Samut Songkram, a trip to MU’s Kanchanaburi campus to study air quality monitoring, as well as cultural excursions to Ayutthaya and the Maeklong Railway Umbrella Pulldown market.

The two world-class universities have exchanged students since 2015, and a select group of ENVI undergrads will be headed to Nagasaki in May 2025.
