Groundwater Pollution in Southeast Asia - Case Studies from Myanmar and Cambodia

12 May, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM, Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies at Mahidol University organized a special lecture entitled "Groundwater Pollution in Southeast Asia - Case Studies from Myanmar and Cambodia", given by Professor Dr. Melissa E. Lenczewski from the Institute for the Study of Environment, Sustainability, and Energy at Northern Illinois University, USA. This lecture was held as part of her visit to Thailand where she will be conducting research between April 18th and June 23rd, 2023, under the ASEAN Fulbright Research Scholar program. The research will focus on issues related to "emerging contaminants in groundwater, especially those linked to urbanization and tourism."
The lecture was held in the Satra Methee Dr. Pongpit Piyapong Conference Room, Badhanatala Environment Building, Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies at Mahidol University, and also accessible through the Zoom Meeting program.


Adapting to Climate Change: Facing the Consequences

9 May 2023 at 11:30 a.m., Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sura Pattanakiat, Dean, presided over and delivered an opening speech at the international training course on "Adapting to Climate Change: Facing the Consequences", held online via Zoom from 9 to 25 May, 2023, and attended by representatives from environmental agencies in both the public and private sectors from 11 countries around the world. The objective of the seminar is to enhance knowledge and understanding of the context of human adaptation to global climate change, including basic knowledge on the application of human adaptability in connection with the environmental systems and natural resources that human societies depend on.

The training is sponsored by the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) and the Perez-Guerrero Trust Fund (PGTF), with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nathsuda Pumijumnong, Director of the Doctor of Philosophy Program in Environment and Resource Studies (International Program), serving as the training course director.


Welcome delegate from Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Yamaguchi University, Japan

April 27 2023, at 8:00 a.m., Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sura Pattanakiat, Dean, along with Asst. Prof. Dr. Sureewan Sittijanda, Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, welcomed Professor Dr. Tsuyoshi Imai from the Division of Environmental Science and Engineering at the Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Yamaguchi University, Japan, on the occasion of his visit to develop research collaboration, and extend the cooperation in developing research proposals and applying for joint research fundings. During the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sura and Professor Dr. Imai also had a preliminary discussion about the potential for future academic cooperation between the two institutions, which included the possibility of establishing a cooperation agreement to support various academic activities such as student exchanges and joint research development.


The faculty received a visit from Northern Illinois University, USA

April 21, 2023, at 10:30 a.m., Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sura Pattanakiat, Dean of the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, and Lect. Dr. Praewa Wongburi extended a warm welcome to Prof. Dr. Melissa E. Lenczewski, Director of the Institute for the Study of Environment, Sustainability, and Energy at Northern Illinois University, USA, on the occasion of her visit to Thailand as part of the ASEAN Fulbright Research Scholar program from April 18 to June 20, 2023, to conduct research with faculty members on issues related to "emerging contaminants in groundwater especially linked to urbanization and tourism". During the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sura and Prof. Lenczewski also engaged in a discussion on ways to include the faculty's students in the said research, and also explored opportunities for future academic collaborations between the Faculty and the Institute for the Study of Environment, Sustainability, and Energy at Northern Illinois University, namely, the possibility of developing a cooperation agreement to support student exchange activities and joint research development, with Asst. Prof. Dr. Achara Ussawarujikulchai, Director of the Master of Science Program in Technology of Environmental Management (Special Program ETS), as the main coordinator for the initiative.


Welcome ASEAN Institute for Health Development, Mahidol University

29 March, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies at Mahidol University, led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Kritana Prueksakorn and Lect. Dr. Navaporn Karnjanasiranon, along with personnel from the Environmental Laboratory and International Standards Department, welcomed a group of students, lecturers, and staff from the Master of Primary Health Care Management program (International Program) at the ASEAN Institute for Health Development, Mahidol University, on the occasion of their visit to attend special presentations on the topic "Briefing and Observation on Measurement of Air Pollution". Following the presentations, the study group was taken by Dr. Nawaporn to visit the air quality measurement vehicle located at the university's Gate 3.


MU-NU Spring Training Program 2023 Closing Ceremony

March 22, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University and Faculty of Environmental Science, Nagasaki University, conducted the closing ceremony of the joint project, the "MU-NU Spring Training Program 2023," at the Nart Tuntawiroon Meeting Room, Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University. During the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sura Pattanakiat, the Dean of the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, presided over the certificate awarding to the participating students and delivered a closing speech, which was followed by a closing remark by Professor Dr. Hiroshi ASAKURA, the supervisor from Nagasaki University. The students from the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies at Mahidol University and the Faculty of Environmental Science at Nagasaki University also had the chance to express their congratulations and share their feelings and experiences gained from the program with one another.

The "MU-NU Spring Training Program" is a Thai-Japanese exchange program for students, which has been continuously organized and attended by students and faculty members from both universities, with a view to encouraging students to collaborate with environmental science experts in their respective fields. The program follows the "Learning by Doing" principle, enabling students to acquire new learning and experiences both inside and outside the classroom while promoting mutual understanding of the cultures of both countries, with Asst. Prof. Dr. Allan Sriratana Tabucanon, Assistant to the Dean for Corporate Communication and International Relations, served as the program director.
