2022 Asia Hub/Nexus Annual Meeting

April 18, 2022, 13.00 – 17.30 hrs., Associate Professor Dr. Sura Pattanakiat, Dean, together with Lecturer Dr. Poonperm Vardhanabindu, Assistant to the Dean for Academic Services and Resources, Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, participated in 2022 Asia Hub/Nexus Annual Meeting title SYNCHRONIZED IN-PERSON AND VIRTUAL WORKSHOPS ACROSS THE ASIA HUB NETWORK and delivered an academic presentation relating to the Future Earth Thailand Project and Nexus, in which technologies in Geoinformatics were used for monitoring and promoting the sustainability of natural resources and environment.
This 3-day annual meeting is held from April 18 to 20, 2022, and attended by 105 participants from 20 universities around the world. On a related note, on April 19, 2022, Associate Professor Dr. Sura Pattanakiat is scheduled to deliver a presentation on “Climate, land use and their impacts on riparian ecosystems in Chi-Munn watersheds” in Session 3: Asia Hub Research Progress Updates, from 14.40 – 15.00 hrs.

CNA Correspondent: Thailand's Ecological Efforts To Protect Coastlines From Over-Tourism

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kanchana Nakhapakorn, Director of Master of Science Program in Technology of Environmental Management, Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, explained the effects of coastal erosion in Thailand, and suggested ways to mitigate the problem (12:07 and 15:02), on “CNA Correspondent: Thailand's Ecological Efforts To Protect Coastlines From Over-Tourism”, live streamed on CNA (Channel News Asia) YouTube channel, 31 March 2022.

PARE Program Spring School 2022

March 7, 2022, 08.00 hrs, Associate Professor Dr. Sura Pattanakiat, Dean of Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, delivered a welcome speech to all the participants present at the opening ceremony of “PARE Program Spring School 2022”, a hybrid academic event scheduled to be held from March 7 to 16, 2021, hosted by Bogor Agricultural University ,Indonesia, Hokkaido University, Japan, and co-hosted by Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University and Kasetsart University Kamphaeng Saen Campus.
The event is conducted with the collaboration of the PARE consortium universities to foster pioneers to transform the Populations-Activities-Resources and Environments (PARE) Chain, consisting of Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, Faculty of Agriculture at Kasetsart University Kamphaeng Saen Campus, Chulalongkorn University, Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology, Thammasat University, Thailand, Institut Pertanian Bogor, Gadjah Mada University, Bandung Institute of Technology, Indonesia, and Hokkaido University, Japan, as the chief collaboration office, to provide graduate students from the consortium universities with the opportunity to participate in the activities that are mainly composed of lectures and field trips in a form of short program to foster individuals with four specific characteristics that are essential for global leaders who will be active in resolving challenges related to PARE (Population-Activities-Resources-Environments), and able to contribute to the sustainability of resources in Asia. This year, there are 29 students from the partner universities in Thailand, Indonesia and Japan, attending the program.


Joint Assessment of Thailand and Myanmar on Flood and Drought for Transboundary Water Resources Management

February 25, 2022, at 11.00 hrs., Associate Professor Dr. Sura Pattanakiat, Dean of Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, attended the Regional Consultation, press conference, and final report launching on the research project titled “Joint Assessment of Thailand and Myanmar on Flood and Drought for Transboundary Water Resources Management”, from February 24-26, 2022, at Le Méridien Chiang Rai Resort, Chiang Rai, and delivered a presentation on “Geo-informatics to assess and predict floods and droughts in Nam Mae Sai-Nam Ruak Watershed”, which is part of a joint research, between Thai and Myanmar researcher teams, that involves the application of public participation geographic information system (PPGIS) for the integration of water management, land-use planning, and transboundary cooperation and data sharing.
