Special lecture on “Scour Modelling Using Deep Neural Networks”

October 27, 2022, 09.00 -12.00 hrs., Associate Professor Kampanad Bhaktikul, Director of Centre for Regional Studies on Technology, Innovation and Cultural Environment, Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, welcomed Professor Mohammed Sharif from Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology, Jamia Millia Islamia (Central University), India, on the occasion of his visit to the faculty to deliver a special lecture on “Scour Modelling Using Deep Neural Networks”, held at Nart Tuntawiroon Meeting Room, Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, and via Zoom.


Memorandum of Understanding between Mahidol University by the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies and Mahidol University International Demonstration School

September 19, 2022, 09.00 hrs, Associate Professor Dr. Sura Pattanakiat, Dean of Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies and Emeritus Professor Dr. Wariya Chinwanno, Director of Mahidol University International Demonstration School (MUIDS), signed a Memorandum of Understanding between Mahidol University by the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies and Mahidol University International Demonstration School, in the presence of honorable representatives from both institutions, led by Associate Professor Dr. Benjaphorn Prapagdee, Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs, Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mr. Padungsak Sukpaiboon, Legal Advisor, and Miss Duangporn Kittisunthorn, Head of School Counselor, Student Services Department Mahidol University International Demonstration School. The objectives of the memorandum of understanding are to build an inter-institutional collaboration regarding the selection/ admission criteria and procedure for recruiting prospective MUIDS students into the Bachelor of Science Program in Natural Resources and Environmental Management (International Program) via direct admission system on a quota basis as well as the faculty’s participation in school counseling activities to introduce the program at Mahidol University International Demonstration School.


The signing ceremony was held at Nart Tuntawiroon Meeting Room, Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University.


Welcomed Dr. Shinya Iwasaki from  Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences: JIRCAS)

August 11, 2022, 09.00, Associate Professor Dr. Sura Pattanakiat, Dean, together with  Associate Professor Dr. Noppol Arunrat, Assistant to the Dean for Policy, Planning and Knowledge Management, Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, welcomed Dr. Shinya Iwasaki from  Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences: JIRCAS) on the occasion of his visit to the faculty and participated in a discussion regarding the initial guidelines for developing a collaboration between Mahidol University by Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies and JIRCAS on creating a new international research network at the organizational that focuses on the 3 main fields that are 1. Environment, emphasizing the advancement of agricultural technologies for climate change, resource renewal and environment conservation, 2. Information, underscoring the strategic data on agriculture, forestry and fisheries, and 3. Food, highlighting the technology development towards building a new food system with improved productivity as well as resilient crops and production technologies. Moreover, JIRCAS is the sole national research institute, under the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan, that undertakes prominent studies in the field of agriculture, forestry and fisheries as well as provide assistance and support for research projects conducted in the South-East Asia Region. 


Field trips to study activities related to research and development of rice varieties in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province

August 10, 2022, 10.30 – 14.00 hrs., Asst. Prof. Dr. Noppol Arunrat, Assistant to the Dean for Policy, Planning and Knowledge Management, Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, took Dr. Shinya Iwasaki from Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences, Rural Development Division, Japan, on a study trip at Ayutthaya Rice Research Center, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province, to learn about research-related activities for the improvement of rice variety, quality and production as well as the agricultural technology transfer to local farmers. The trip was organized with the hospitality and support of Mr. Kritkamol PaoThong, Acting Director of Ayutthaya Rice Research Center, and Ms. Sumana Maneepitak, Plan and Policy Analyst, Senior Professional Level, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.


National Training on the Mekong River Commission Riverine Plastic Monitoring Protocols

July 22, 2022, 09.00 hrs, Faculty of Environment and Resource Stuides, Mahidol University, received a visit from a group of participants representing the relevant national agencies of the Mekong River Commission (MRC) Member Countries (Cambodia, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Thailand, and Vietnam) in the “National Training on the Mekong River Commission Riverine Plastic Monitoring Protocols”, in which the faculty also provided laboratory facilities and equipment support for the participants under the supervision of Asst. Prof. Dr. Achara Ussawarujikulchai, Director of Master of Science Program in Technology of Environmental Management (Special Program ETS), Faculty of Environment and Resource Stuides, Mahidol University.
The training was jointly organized by Mekong River Commission Secretariat (MRCS) and Thai National Mekong Committee Secretariat, from July 18 – 22, 2022, with the aim of strengthening the common understanding and capacity of the participants on the systematic implementation of the Mekong River Commission Riverine Plastic Monitoring Protocols that are in accordance with the stepwise approach for transboundary monitoring of riverine macro and micro plastic debris in the Mekong River.


Thai Coast : Coastal Vulnerability, Resilience and Adaptation in Thailand

June 9, 2022, 14.00 hrs., Prof. Banchong Mahaisavariya, M.D., President of Mahidol University, presided over and delivered an opening speech, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sura Pattanakiat, Dean of Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, gave a welcome speech to the researcher group from University of Brighton, University of Sussex, and Ambiental Risk Analytics, Royal Haskoning DHV, UK, led by Professor Cherith Moses, Head of Department of Geography from Edge Hill University, and the researcher group from Mahidol University, Chulalongkorn University and Thammasat University, led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kanchana Nakhapakorn from Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, attending the final conference on “Thai Coast : Coastal Vulnerability, Resilience and Adaptation in Thailand”, which was part of the collaborative research project between the researcher groups in UK and Thailand with the aim of improving understanding of the vulnerability of Thailand’s shoreline as well as enhancing the resilience and adaptation potential of coastal communities to storms, floods and coastal erosion under future climate change scenarios. The meeting was also a good opportunity for the researchers to share their experiences and lessons learned from the project as well as disseminate the project outcomes with the wider community through novel approaches, including social media, regarding the factors that contribute to risk from hydro-meteorological hazards, including and informing knowledge of governance processes for coastal communities.


The project was supported by The Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), UK, and The Thailand Research Fund (TRF), through the Newton Fund in Thailand. The meeting was held via Zoom meeting.
