Welcome ASEAN Institute for Health Development, Mahidol University

29 March, 2023, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM, the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies at Mahidol University, led by Asst. Prof. Dr. Kritana Prueksakorn and Lect. Dr. Navaporn Karnjanasiranon, along with personnel from the Environmental Laboratory and International Standards Department, welcomed a group of students, lecturers, and staff from the Master of Primary Health Care Management program (International Program) at the ASEAN Institute for Health Development, Mahidol University, on the occasion of their visit to attend special presentations on the topic "Briefing and Observation on Measurement of Air Pollution". Following the presentations, the study group was taken by Dr. Nawaporn to visit the air quality measurement vehicle located at the university's Gate 3.


MU-NU Spring Training Program 2023 Closing Ceremony

March 22, 2023, at 2:00 p.m., Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University and Faculty of Environmental Science, Nagasaki University, conducted the closing ceremony of the joint project, the "MU-NU Spring Training Program 2023," at the Nart Tuntawiroon Meeting Room, Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University. During the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sura Pattanakiat, the Dean of the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, presided over the certificate awarding to the participating students and delivered a closing speech, which was followed by a closing remark by Professor Dr. Hiroshi ASAKURA, the supervisor from Nagasaki University. The students from the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies at Mahidol University and the Faculty of Environmental Science at Nagasaki University also had the chance to express their congratulations and share their feelings and experiences gained from the program with one another.

The "MU-NU Spring Training Program" is a Thai-Japanese exchange program for students, which has been continuously organized and attended by students and faculty members from both universities, with a view to encouraging students to collaborate with environmental science experts in their respective fields. The program follows the "Learning by Doing" principle, enabling students to acquire new learning and experiences both inside and outside the classroom while promoting mutual understanding of the cultures of both countries, with Asst. Prof. Dr. Allan Sriratana Tabucanon, Assistant to the Dean for Corporate Communication and International Relations, served as the program director.


11th Meeting of Partners (MOP11) of the East - Australasian Asian Flyway Partnership (EAAFP)

Dr. Piyakarn Teartisup, Assistant Professor of the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, attended the 11th Meeting of Partners (MOP11) of the East - Australasian Asian Flyway Partnership (EAAFP) in Brisbane, Australia from 12-17 March 2023.

Over 150 participants from 18 organizations discussed the conservation of migratory waterbirds and their habitats, focusing on 11 key draft decisions, including the Convention on Wetlands' Programme on communication, capacity building, education, participation, and awareness (CEPA) Action Plan.

The meeting also included 11 side events to foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing. The meeting's outcomes included enhanced efficiency in partnership operation and the establishment of new guidelines for national, site and Sister Site Partnerships, Population Estimates and Trends of Migratory Waterbird Populations.


Welcomed Specialist from Michigan State University (MSU), USA

March 14, 2023, at 1:00 p.m., Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sura Pattanakiat, the Dean, together with Asst. Prof. Dr. Jongdee To-im, the Assistant to the President for Student Affairs and Alumni Relations at Mahidol University, Dr. Boripat Siriaroonrat, Researcher, and Asst. Prof. Dr. Preeyaporn Koedrith, Lecturer at the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies at Mahidol University, welcomed Dr. Qing Xia, the Associate Director for Global Health Education, Research Coordinator Dr. Ramjee Ghimire, the Global Outreach and Network Specialist from Michigan State University (MSU), USA, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Saengduen Moonsom, the Thailand One Health University Network (THOHUN) National Coordinating Office. The working group had the opportunity to discuss cooperation in research and academic services under the MSU and THOHUN in the Mekong One Health Invitation Program (MOHIP) project, emphasizing capacity development and networking for research on "Health Security, One Health, and Zoonoses."

The discussions also included introducing an international networking approach between Mekong researchers/practitioners and the United States Government (USG) One Health to strengthen health security using the One Health approach, solving and overcoming the challenges of One Health security, developing and delivering courses on the topic of "Health Insurance, One Health, and Zoonoses " , as well as providing funds for researchers/practitioners in the Mekong Basin to conduct research on health security in the Mekong Basin. There was also an exchange of opinions and suggestions on expanding the scope of cooperation to other departments and research centers, both inside and outside Mahidol University. The meeting was held at Meeting Room 4, Nart Tuntawiroon Building, Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University.


Campus Tour

March 1, 2023, 13.15 hrs. Dr. Titus Awokuse, Associate Dean for Research and Strategies at Michigan State University's International Studies and Programs (ISP), along with Dr. Isabella Tirtowalujo, Associated Director of the Asia Hub, were taken on a campus tour around Mahidol University's Salaya campus, by a university tram.

The tour included visiting the university's landmarks and attraction spots in the company of Emeritus Prof. Charlie Navanugraha, the Director of the Center of Excellence on Soil Research in Asia (CESRA) of the Land Development Department, and Assistant Professor Dr. Thamarat Phutthai, Assistant to the Dean for Student Affairs and Special Events. The tour was organized after the successful completion of an Asia Hub Workshop on Collaborative Research Progress and Future Plans held at the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University.

February 28, 2023, the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies at Mahidol University, in collaboration with the Department of Land Development of Thailand, Nanjing Agricultural University of the People's Republic of China, and Michigan State University of the USA, organized a workshop titled "An Asia Hub Workshop on Collaborative Research Progress and Future Plans." The workshop was graced by the presence of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sura Pattanakiat, the Dean of the Faculty, and Dr. Titus Awokuse, the Associate Dean for Research and Strategies, International Studies and Programs (ISP) at Michigan State University, who delivered opening remarks and welcomed the attendees. Prof. Dr. Jiaguo Qi, the Director of the Asia Hub at Michigan State University, gave a briefing on the objectives and expectations of the workshop, which were organized with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Charlie Navanugraha, the Director of the Center of Excellence on Soil Research in Asia (CESRA) of the Land Development Department, and a faculty board of consultant member, as the key contact person, to strengthen cooperation among institutions in Asia to develop knowledge and find ways to tackle new challenges arising from climate change, including the link between such challenges and the principles of One Health and Sustainable Development in Asia. The workshop aimed to study the challenges and relevant knowledge gaps in greater detail to help drive national strategies, particularly on issues related to combating climate change.

The participants also discussed future plans for conducting academic activities in other ways, such as student training, capacity building, and academic exchange on the aforementioned issues. Additionally, representatives from university and organization members of the Asia Hub Cooperation Network also attended the meeting to present their perspectives and research ideas to support the Asia Hub's operations at the Nart Tuntawiroon Meeting Room in the Nart Tuntawiroon Building of the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies at Mahidol University, both in person and via a virtual conference platform.
