ENVI Mahidol Open House World Environment Day 2026 Inspires Collective Action Toward Sustainability and Net Zero

5 June 2026 – The Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, hosted "ENVI Mahidol Open House World Environment Day 2026" at the Environmental Development Building, Mahidol University, Salaya Campus, in celebration of World Environment Day, observed annually on 5 June. The event aimed to raise environmental awareness, encourage collaboration among all sectors, and promote collective action toward a more sustainable society in support of greenhouse gas reduction and carbon neutrality goals.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Professor Piyamitr Sritara, M.D., President of Mahidol University. In his opening remarks, he emphasized the significance of World Environment Day, established by the United Nations to foster global awareness and international cooperation in addressing environmental challenges. He noted that "protecting the environment is not the responsibility of any one individual—it is a shared mission of humanity to preserve a healthy planet for future generations." He also highlighted that the transition toward a low-carbon society and sustainable development forms a fundamental pillar of both national and global resilience.

Associate Professor Dr. Kitikorn Charmondusit, Dean of the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, stated that the world is currently facing unprecedented challenges from climate change, the energy crisis, and geopolitical uncertainties, all of which have profound impacts on ecosystems and human well-being. Now in its second consecutive year, ENVI Mahidol Open House World Environment Day was organized not only to enhance environmental awareness but also to expand educational opportunities and strengthen collaboration among academia, industry, and local communities in driving tangible progress toward sustainability.

As part of the opening ceremony, university executives, faculty members, and distinguished guests participated in a tree-watering ceremony, symbolizing the nurturing of knowledge, environmental responsibility, and stewardship, while reinforcing the importance of conserving natural resources for future generations.

The event featured a wide range of academic and public engagement activities, including:

  • Special Panel Discussion: "NEXT MOVE TO NET ZERO: Preparing Organizations for the Low-Carbon Era," bringing together experts to share perspectives and strategies for organizational adaptation in the transition to a low-carbon economy.
  • The 2nd National Conference on Sustainable Development, featuring 85 research presentations, including 69 oral presentations and 16 poster presentations, showcasing the latest research and innovations in sustainability.
  • ENVI Mahidol–School Hackathon, providing a platform for students from 20 partner schools to demonstrate their environmental innovation through 20 project presentations and 26 poster presentations.
  • Environmental Exhibitions and Academic Booths, presented by students, faculty members, and partner organizations, alongside exhibitions of green innovations and sustainable technologies from leading private-sector companies.
  • Community Engagement and Local Economy Promotion, featuring locally made products from communities in Nakhon Pathom Province, including Ko Lad E-Tan Community (Rai Khing Subdistrict) and the Krathum Lom Subdistrict Learning Promotion Center, highlighting the role of local wisdom in sustainable development.

The event demonstrated the strength of collaboration among government agencies, industry partners, educational institutions, local communities, and youth in creating knowledge, fostering innovation, and advancing sustainable development to address future environmental challenges.

The Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, extends its sincere appreciation to all partners and supporting organizations for contributing to the success of the event.
