ENVI Mahidol Discusses China–ASEAN Collaboration to Advance Low-Carbon Development in 2026

ENVI Mahidol, Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, led by Associate Professor Dr. Kitikorn Charmondusit, Dean, and Assistant Professor Dr. Allan Sriratana Tabucanon, Deputy Dean for Education and International Relations, held a meeting with Professor Dr. Zhang Jiutian, Executive Director of the Green Development Institute, Beijing Normal University, together with Associate Professor Dr. Song Xiangjing of the Green Development Institute, to support the mission of strengthening China–ASEAN cooperation on low-carbon development in 2026.

The discussion focused on advancing academic and research collaboration, with the aim of identifying opportunities for joint projects by integrating China’s strengths in low-carbon technologies, green development models, and industrial experience with the capacities of Thailand and ASEAN countries.

The meeting explored potential areas of future cooperation, including renewable energy, greenhouse gas emission reduction, carbon management, and technology transfer. Both sides also exchanged information on their respective expertise and experience. The Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, highlighted its strong multidisciplinary expertise covering natural resources, environment, energy, environmental economics, greenhouse gases, pollution, health, and waste management, along with its missions in education, research, and international academic services.

In addition, the meeting reviewed the Faculty’s international collaboration network, which includes partnerships with universities and organizations across multiple regions, as well as the Carbon Neutrality Campus Platform jointly implemented with UNESCAP and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, involving more than 15 universities from ASEAN and other countries. At the same time, the Chinese side shared insights into China’s carbon policy and strategic direction, which is transitioning toward a systematic control of carbon dioxide emissions under the 15th Five-Year Plan, with a strong emphasis on low-carbon and zero-emission industrial parks.
Regarding the role of the Green Development Institute, established in 2018, the institute serves as a key platform for green development, carbon management, and climate policy, working closely with government agencies, industry, and the financial sector.

The meeting concluded with a shared view that initiating cooperation through pilot projects in industrial estates would provide a concrete and scalable approach, enabling both policy-level and practical implementation at the regional level. There is also strong potential for further development of joint projects, applications for government funding, and the establishment of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for academic cooperation between institutions in the future.
The meeting was coordinated by the Global Partnerships Division, Mahidol University, as the main coordinating body.


ENVI Mahidol Discusses Collaboration with Denso Group to Advance CWIE and Academic Partnerships for Workforce Development and Industrial Sustainability

On 26 January 2026, Associate Professor Dr. Kitikorn Charmondusit, Dean of the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, together with Assistant Professor Dr. Allan Sriratana Tabucanon, Associate Dean for Education and International Relations, and faculty staff, held a meeting with representatives from Denso Group companies, including Siam Denso Manufacturing and Siam Kyosan Denso.

The discussion focused on potential collaboration in Cooperative and Work Integrated Education (CWIE), as well as joint research and development in environmental and sustainability fields.

The meeting emphasized the development of cooperative education and internship programs. The company proposed a cooperative education model allowing students to work in real industrial settings for a period of 8 months to 1 year, functioning as full-time employees and undertaking real-world projects in place of traditional senior projects. This approach aims to better prepare students for industrial careers and provide opportunities for high-performing students to be recruited by the company upon graduation.

In addition, both parties exchanged views on Denso Group’s environmental and sustainability policies, particularly its Eco Vision and its goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2035.

Regarding academic collaboration, Denso expressed strong interest in long-term joint research involving faculty members and students at undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral levels. Research topics of interest include plastic recycling, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), and innovative technologies for carbon reduction. Both parties agreed on the importance of establishing a long-term Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to ensure continuity and a clear framework for collaboration, with activities expected to commence as early as June, in alignment with the student internship period.


ENVI Mahidol Welcomes International Executives to Discuss AI Collaboration for Public Health, Environment, and Sustainable Development

23 January 2026, Associate Professor Dr. Kitikorn Chamroonsuddit, Dean of the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Noppol Arunrat, Deputy Dean for Research and Academic Services, Dr. Praewa Wongburi, Assistant Dean for Policy, Planning and International Relations, and Dr. Shreema Rana, Foreign Expert, welcomed Dr. Deepak C. Bajracharya, Executive Director of the Group for Technical Assistance (GTA) Foundation, Nepal, and Dr. Imran Khan, Director of Precision Health Consultants (PHC Global), Pakistan, on the occasion of their visit to the Faculty to discuss academic and research collaboration.

The meeting focused on the exchange of knowledge and experiences in applying artificial intelligence (AI) to support public health, environmental management, and sustainable development. In particular, the discussion highlighted the AI-Sarosh Project of the GTA Foundation, which is supported by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) of Canada and the United Kingdom. The project aims to strengthen health systems for maternal and child health, as well as sexual and reproductive health, through the application of AI technology combined with community-based approaches.

In addition, both parties exchanged views on research related to the impacts of climate change on health and the environment, disaster management, air pollution (PM2.5), and the use of digital technologies and AI for data analysis, forecasting, and policy support. They agreed on the strong potential for future collaboration, including the development of joint research projects, academic and student exchange programs, and the strengthening of regional networks in Asia, in order to jointly advance public health, environmental sustainability, and sustainable development at the international level.


ENVI Mahidol and PTT OR Host Facebook Live Session on Climate Technology

On 22 January 2026 from 6.00–6.35 p.m., the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, in collaboration with PTT Oil and Retail Business (PTT OR), hosted a Facebook Live session entitled “Technology for Tackling Climate Change.”

The session featured Associate Professor Dr. Kampanat Bhakdikul, faculty member and Advisor for Education and International Relations, and Assistant Professor Dr. Allan Sriratana Tabucanon, Associate Dean for Education and International Relations, as guest speakers.

The discussion covered global and ASEAN climate change situations, the role of climate technologies in mitigating environmental impacts, and examples of innovative climate technologies from around the world. The speakers also emphasized the importance of engaging youth through the OR Seeding Project, encouraging participants to analyze climate challenges and develop innovative solutions. The live session included an interactive Q&A segment, allowing viewers to actively participate.


ENVI Mahidol Hosts Special Talk Series Day to Enhance Perspectives on the Green Economy and Sustainable Cities, Strengthening Thailand–Indonesia Collaboration

21 January 2026, the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University organized the Special Talk Series Day at the Badhanatala Environment Building (Building 4). The event aimed to promote academic collaboration between Thailand and the Republic of Indonesia under the exchange program with Universitas Merdeka Malang (UNMER). The program focused on exchanging knowledge on the green economy, environmental technologies, and approaches to sustainable urban development.

The morning sessions featured insightful lectures on green business opportunities and regional cooperation within ASEAN by Dr. Aditya Budi Krisnanto from UNMER, as well as a presentation on the application of solar energy in sustainable aquaculture systems using a Recirculating Aquaculture System (RAS) by Ir. Subairi. In addition, I Kadek Putra Igmas shared perspectives and experiences related to environmental sustainability.

Furthermore, Associate Professor Dr. Noppol Arunrat, the Faculty's Deputy Dean for Research and Academic, also Services delivered a special lecture entitled “Co-creating Sustainable Cities: Community–University–City in Action,” emphasizing the importance of integrated collaboration between communities and academic institutions in building sustainable cities.

On this occasion, Associate Professor Dr. Kitikorn Charmondusit, Dean of the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, presented certificates of appreciation to the speakers from UNMER as a gesture of gratitude and to strengthen academic relations. The event also included a discussion session on future collaboration, covering student exchange opportunities, scholarship support, and joint initiatives in research and teaching between the two institutions.


ENVI Mahidol, in collaboration with Universitas Merdeka Malang (UNMER), Republic of Indonesia, organizes the Sustainability Connect: Global Learning for a Better Tomorrow 2026 project to strengthen international learning on sustainability.

20 January 2026, the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, in collaboration with the Faculty of Economics and Business, Faculty of Engineering, and the Tourism Diploma Program, Universitas Merdeka Malang (UNMER), Republic of Indonesia, organized the project titled “Sustainability Connect: Global Learning for a Better Tomorrow 2026 (ENVI Mahidol University x UNMER)” at the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University. The opening ceremony was presided over by Associate Professor Dr. Kitikorn Charmondusit, who delivered welcoming remarks to participating faculty members and students. In addition, Ir. Subairi, S.T., M.T., IPM., from the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Merdeka Malang (UNMER), addressed the success of the project’s initiation.

The project represents an academic collaboration between the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, and Universitas Merdeka Malang (UNMER), Republic of Indonesia, aimed at promoting learning in sustainable development, environmental studies, and international student exchange. The initiative integrates international relations, student affairs, and both Thai and international curricula of the Faculty. Its objectives are to establish an international learning platform and provide opportunities for students from both institutions to learn together through real-world situations, while enhancing systems thinking, cross-cultural teamwork, and communication skills in multicultural contexts. The project also encourages the application of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) framework in problem analysis and the development of creative sustainability-oriented concepts. Dr. Praewa Wongburi, Assistant Dean for Policy, Planning, and International Relations, serves as the Project Director.

Learning activities under the project include participation in international program classes (sit-in classes), hands-on workshops, field studies in community, university, and urban contexts, as well as collaborative creative group projects (SDGs-based Mini Projects) and project presentations. These activities are linked to SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 13 (Climate Action). The program is conducted from 20 January to 9 February 2026, with participation from faculty members and students of Universitas Merdeka Malang together with Thai students enrolled in both Thai and international programs of the Faculty. The project aims to enable participants to apply sustainability knowledge in diverse contexts and to serve as a strong foundation for the long-term expansion of academic collaboration between the two institutions in the future.
