August 24, 2026 Associate Professor Dr. Kitikorn Charmondusit, together with administrators, faculty members, and staff of the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, welcomed a delegation of students from Assumption College Thonburi, led by Master Khempas Jatkon, Head of the Environmental Affairs Division, along with representatives from CP All Public Company Limited, led by Ms. Supranee Seenuanoi, Assistant General Manager. The delegation participated in a discussion and presentation of the “ACT X 7-Eleven” project concept at the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, Salaya Campus. The meeting aimed to promote collaboration among the education, business, and social sectors in addressing the use of single-use plastic bags and to develop a model for plastic management that could be expanded to other educational institutions and communities in the future.
The ACT X 7-Eleven project is a collaboration among Assumption College Thonburi, the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, and CP, with the key objective of encouraging consumers particularly students, parents, and school personnel to refuse plastic bags when making purchases at 7-Eleven stores. Data collected from the project will be analyzed and evaluated to develop a model for environmental behavior change that can be adapted and implemented on a broader scale.
During the meeting, students from Assumption College Thonburi presented their proposed project implementation plan, with the school serving as a six-month pilot site. The initiative will initially focus on a 7-Eleven branch located near the school. The students also proposed an incentive system based on accumulated points for customers who refuse plastic bags, potentially linked to student identification numbers or another appropriate system to record and monitor student participation.
The project aims to promote the reduction of single-use plastic consumption in educational institutions, with targets covering plastic bag reduction, student participation, and environmental impact assessment. It will also monitor changes in participants’ knowledge, awareness, attitudes, and behaviors before and after the implementation of the activities.
The project will comprise a range of activities covering learning, communication, motivation, and practical action. These activities are designed to enable students to apply plastic reduction concepts in their daily lives and encourage them to extend these practices to their families and other members of the school community.
The meeting recognized the project’s potential to serve as a pilot initiative. Key considerations include designing an appropriate data-monitoring system, establishing connections between participation data, and developing suitable evaluation mechanisms. The project may initially adopt a basic system to test the implementation model before developing it into a more efficient and comprehensive system.
In the next phase, the project has the potential to expand to other educational institutions and communities, creating a collaborative model among the education sector, business sector, and university to reduce plastic consumption, promote systematic resource and waste management, and support greenhouse gas emission reductions in line with the Carbon Neutrality Campus (CNC) concept in a sustainable manner.
