ENVI Mahidol Activities 2026

15 September 2026, Associate Professor Dr. Kitikorn Charmondusit, Dean of the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, delivered the opening speech at “The 3rd International PhD Students Conference on Environment,” held as a virtual conference via Zoom. The conference brought together PhD students and researchers from academic institutions in Thailand and abroad to provide a platform for research presentations, knowledge exchange, and the development of international academic networks and collaborations in environmental studies.

The conference was organized by the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, in collaboration with partner programs and institutions, including the Environment, Development and Sustainability Program, Chulalongkorn University; the Marine and Coastal Resources Management Program, Prince of Songkla University; the Environmental Science Program, Chiang Mai University; the Hazardous Substance and Environmental Management Program, Chulalongkorn University; and the Department of Environment and Geography, University of York, United Kingdom.

The conference featured research presentations by PhD students from a wide range of environmental and natural resource disciplines. Topics included teak growth under contrasting tropical monsoon conditions in Thailand and Indonesia; mechanical recycling of end-of-life textiles for sustainable construction materials; predicting seed-storage behaviour for forest ecosystem restoration; microplastic contamination in aquifers; the effects of salinity on MOF stability during photocatalytic degradation of PFOA; thermal responses of aquatic plants in Songkhla Lagoon; and physiological responses of corals under low-oxygen conditions.

Additional presentations addressed sustainable plastic packaging waste management, mainstreaming disaster education in higher education to strengthen urban community resilience, governance and informality in Beijing’s urban villages, and the quantification of blue carbon in Maldivian mangroves. These diverse research topics reflected the breadth of environmental challenges and the application of environmental knowledge to address global sustainability issues.

The conference served as an important platform for strengthening the research and presentation skills of PhD students, enabling them to share and exchange their research findings with academics from various institutions. It also promoted academic networking and collaboration among higher education institutions, contributing to the advancement of environmental knowledge and innovation in support of sustainable development at both national and international levels.

On September 9, 2026, the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, organized the “Meet Your Advisors: Discussing Challenges After Starting Classes” Activity, 1st Session of 2026, at Meeting Room 4215, Badhanatala Environment Building, Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, Salaya. The activity provided an opportunity for first-year students in the Bachelor of Science Program (B.Sc.) in Natural Resources and Environmental Management (International Program) (NM) to meet and discuss their academic progress with the program’s administrative committee and academic advisors following the start of the 2026 academic year.

The activity aimed to provide students with appropriate guidance on academic planning. During the first session, first-year NM students met with the program’s administrative committee and program management committee to discuss their study plans, course registration, and approaches to planning their studies in alignment with their academic goals.

Students then met with their academic advisors in designated advising groups to discuss and seek guidance on various academic matters, including concerns about their studies, course planning, academic performance, English language examination preparation, and planning to meet the required standards prior to graduation.

The activity provided a platform for students to review and plan their academic pathways together with their advisors, covering course and study planning, academic progress, English language examination preparation, and graduation requirements. Through these discussions, students were encouraged to gain a clearer understanding of their academic pathways and prepare systematically for the next stages of their university education.
