ENVI Mahidol Organizes Training on Climate Change, Greenhouse Gas Emissions Assessment, and Carbon Credits

On 9 October 2026, the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, organized a three-hour training session on “Fundamentals of Climate Change, Greenhouse Gas Emissions Assessment, and Carbon Credits.” The target participants were second-year students and above enrolled in the Bachelor of Science Program in Natural Resources and Environmental Management (International Program). The training aimed to strengthen students’ understanding of climate change, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions assessment, and carbon credit mechanisms, while developing their analytical thinking and problem-solving skills through practical exercises.

The training began with a session on climate change, global warming, and greenhouse gases, led by Dr. Kanawat Paoin, who introduced the causes of climate change, major greenhouse gases and their emission sources, and the environmental, economic, and social impacts of climate change. This was followed by a session on Carbon Footprint for Organization (CFO) and GHG emissions assessment, led by Dr. Achiraya Chaichaloempreecha. The session covered organizational and operational boundaries, the classification of Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions, activity data, emission factors, and the basic principles of GHG emissions calculation.

The practical session, led by Dr. Abhisit Bhatsada, introduced students to the Excel template developed by the Thailand Greenhouse Gas Management Organization (Public Organization: TGO) for organizational carbon footprint assessment. Working with a simulated business case study, students practiced classifying emission sources, entering activity data, and calculating GHG emissions. The session also encouraged students to interpret calculation results, identify major emission sources, and discuss practical measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The training concluded with a review of the key concepts connecting climate change, GHG emissions, organizational carbon footprints, emissions assessment, and GHG reduction. Through this combination of foundational knowledge and hands-on learning, the activity enabled students in the international program to apply environmental assessment principles to simulated business scenarios and better understand the role of GHG emissions reduction in sustainable business practices.
