ENVI Mahidol Participates in International Discussion on Climate Governance and Youth Leadership in the Asia-Pacific Region

The Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, through its Carbon Neutrality Campus (CNC) team led by Dr. Praewa Wongburi, Assistant Dean for Policy, Planning and International Relations, together with Dr. Shreema Rana, Foreign Expert, participated in the discussion session titled “Navigating Climate Governance: Insights from Young Leaders in the Asia-Pacific,” organized by The Rockefeller Foundation in collaboration with UNDP at The Rockefeller Foundation Asia Regional Office in Bangkok.

The discussion focused on climate governance, youth engagement, and the role of strategic support mechanisms in strengthening meaningful youth participation across the Asia-Pacific region. During the session, the CNC team shared perspectives from the youth dimension and highlighted that many young people still face limitations in accessing decision-making spaces, technical expertise, mentorship systems, and capacity-building opportunities.

Representing Mahidol University, the CNC team emphasized the importance of developing approaches that elevate youth participation beyond simply being heard toward having genuine influence in decision-making processes. The discussion also underscored the important role of universities, international organizations, and development partners as strategic support mechanisms in strengthening technical capacities, promoting cross-sector collaboration, and empowering youth, particularly young women, to become credible actors in advancing climate governance and policy.

In addition, the team presented collaborative initiatives under the Carbon Neutrality Campus (CNC) project, which aim to connect the energy and commitment of youth with academic and technical credibility through capacity-building activities, cross-sector partnerships, and knowledge-exchange platforms. The Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University, expressed its commitment to fostering stronger collaboration with youth networks and stakeholders to jointly develop the next generation of climate leaders equipped with both technical competence and comprehensive policy understanding.
