Doctor of Philosophy (Environment and Resource Studies)

Highlight: Focus on the research, with no courses offered. The program requires students to be modern research experts in environment and resources science, able to learn independently, creatively, morally, have wide vision, can work both independently and with a team, be a leader in environmental science, able to integrate the overall knowledge of the environmental system and produce innovative products for the benefit of sustainable development.

The details are as follows.

Workshop “Probing structures from micro to atomic scale with synchrotron x-ray and Python: Modern world programing language for scientific research and education”

The Synchrotron Light Research Institute (Public Organization) is a national facility established to operate the only synchrotron radiation source – a larger electron accelerator and storage ring complex, in Thailand. The institute is also responsible for development and services of synchrotron light and relevant instruments and measurement systems to Thai and international researchers, of which users who carried out research for non-commercial purposes such as academics, students or researchers from public institutions can have access to the facilities free of charge. In the first talk, an introduction to the synchrotron facilities will be given with emphasis on application of synchrotron x-ray for characterization and studies of micro, nano and atomic structures. The beamtime application procedure to access facilities for various relevant techniques such as x-ray tomography, x-ray absorption, x-ray scattering and x-ray fluorescence are also given.

The second talk will introduce Python - an open source, free programing language which has become the most utilized programing language in the modern world, and has gained popularity in variety of scientific applications in recent years. The talk will give examples of Python applications to demonstrate its capability to be a highly efficient tools for scientific research including data manipulation, interpretation and presentation and data modeling. Python’s capability for building game-like educational tools through its highly efficient graphic modules is also demonstrated.
