November 16, 2020, at 14.00 – 15.00 hrs., Prof. Banchong Mahaisavariya, M.D., President of Mahidol University and Mr.Thanya Netithammakun, Director General of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation signed the Memorandum of Understanding for Academic Collaboration between Mahidol University by the Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies and the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation for promoting and strengthening knowledge in the conserved forest areas. The ceremony was held at the meeting room 530, 5th floor, Office of the President, Mahidol University, Salaya campus, Nakhonpathom.

Prof. Banchong Mahaisavariya, M.D., President of Mahidol University and Mr.Thanya Netithammakun, Director General of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation signed the Memorandum of Understanding for Academic Collaboration between the two organizations, with Mr.Somwang Ruangnivatsai, Deputy Director General of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, Mrs.Rungnapar Pattanavibool, Director of Forest and Plant Conservation Research Office, Prof. Wachira Kochakarn, M.D. FACS., Vice President for Research and Scientific Affairs, Mahidol University, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sura Pattanakiat, Dean, Faculty of Environment and Resource Studies, Mahidol University as witnesses, in which the objectives are to strengthen and support an operation focusing on investigation, study, research, experiment and exchange of knowledge obtained from the conserved forest areas (national parks, forest parks, botanical gardens, arboretums, wildlife sanctuary or non-hunting area) which will develop the capacity and competency of personnel from both organizations in efficiently and sustainably managing conserved forests as well as utilizing and sharing the benefit from natural resources considering the balance, sustainability and biodiversity.

This is to be in line with the National Park Act, B.E. 2562 (2019) and the Wildlife Preservation and Protection Act B.E. 2562 (2019) which stipulate that keeping, obtaining or collection of plants, wildlife or biodiversity from national parks, forest parks, botanical gardens, arboretums, wildlife sanctuary or non-hunting area specifically for investigation, study, research or academic experiment are to be permitted by the authority, and the benefit from the study results or biodiversity research shall be shared among the organizations. This Memorandum of Understanding is valid for five years from the date of joint signing.
